Hi List,

My Institute has implemented an online literacy and numeracy assessment
called "Are You Ready". This tool is totally inaccessible regarding screen
reader access and for many large print users.

I am seeking an alternative which can be either electronic (although this
raises its own issues in the assumption that the student is competent in
using screen reader technology) or conducted manually by an Adult Basic
Education teacher. It is also very difficult to assess the literacy and
numeracy skills of an adult who for many reasons relies on audio over
electronic files and systems or braille.

If anyone has a tool they can share with me, I would be very grateful as it
is becoming a standard feature of the enrolment process and currently we
simply have no way to assess students who are blind or vision impaired. The
basis for administering this testing is to ensure students who have a
literacy and numeracy at level 2 do not go and enrol in a certificate 4 or
diploma course in which they could really struggle. It also helps identify
students who would greatly benefit from literacy and numeracy support in
their chosen fields of study and helps to plan our learning centre programs.

Again, greatly appreciate any guidance you may be able to offer.
