Thor,

I use the Rollei QR mounting plate and have had no problems except that
sometimes the camera is difficult to release because the taper 'locks'
in (similar to the morse taper on machine tooling). The little knob on
the rear turns a lock to prevent the camera from sliding out of the
mount. This is then turned anti-clockwise to release. It is a small
mount and although quick to insert, it is advisable to actually 'look'
to check and make sure it is aligned and locked properly before letting
go of the camera. ;-)

Anyone actually use this?

Judging from how it looks, and the size of the plate uder the camera, I
would be wary of using this with the camera. It really looks tiny
compared to the amount of weight it needs to carry securely.

I was thinking that a longer/sturdier flat plate with flange (a la
Arca) would be a better solution, but would like to hear from others's
expereinces.

Several (Jim, Jeff, Marc) have discouraged the use of ball heads and
given advice on tripods, but I have a tripod, and before I get a head
I'd like to settle on and try out a QR system for my existing head
before replacing it. I'm still pretty sure I don't want a pan head.

BTW, the Z1 looks really nice. So does the RRS, and the Kirk, and the
Novoflex, and the....

Cheers,
Thor
