My contribution to thread is this exactly, not to tell someone how to spend their money. And that, it is in my opinion, good to have a go. And in the
context of the discussion on self-repair the opinion voiced is valid.

Marvin,

And your contribution to the thread is what exactly? There was a
discussion about the merits of self-repair. I contributed my opinion.
This is a discussion list after all.

Mark,

That is false economics. If you pay a qualified reapairman you will
have to meet the repair costs. However, if you do it yourself, mess
it up and then have to buy another camera for the cost of the repair
you will have spent on the original camera, your time on the botched
repair, AND on another camera (which may still need a CLA. What is
reasonable about that?

The reason I'm doing the repair myself is that a
"qualified" repairman would charge me more to do the
servicing than a fully functioning camera can be
purchased for on e-bay. If I'm unable to do the
repair, I still have the option to purchase another
camera on the internet and I'll be ahead of the game
finanacially versus sending out the camera to a
repairman. That's why reasonable people, not "idiots,"
might choose to do their own repairs.

Camera repair technicians just love idiots who
take their camera apart
