I forgot to mention another important use for corner reflectors, that is as a radar target. Such radio wave corner reflectors were provided as standard equipment for lifeboats in order to creat a strong radar reflection where the boat itself might not be visible at all. The were made of highly reflective material and were made to be essentially four corner reflectors connected at the center so that they would reflect a signal coming from any direction. Corner reflector antennas are also used for many other purposes where the need for precision alignment is undesirable.
