The thing about sniping programs is, one can enter the MAXIMUM one
would ever consider paying for the widget, and then forget about it.
If you win, you win. If you lose, you are not tempted to bid above
your preset limit, you simply lose. The winner obviously wanted it
more than you did.
I used to waste a lot of time having two screens open, waiting until
15 seconds before the end, then entering my bid. So now I do the same
thing only use a program to do it for me so I can actually do my work.
I'm in the same time zone as eBay (they are literally just a few
blocks from me) so an awful lot of the end times are during the middle
of my work day. Sniping software solves that problem.
I buy a lot of stuff from foreign countries, on their eBay (where I
got my SL66 cameras and a lot of Hasselblad stuff) so sniping programs
are a savior there too.
