But I have a terrible feeling that I have called someone's baby ugly...

I take it back... he old 50 Dist is a fabulous lens. In fact, there
was no reason in the world why Zeiss recalculated and updated it with
a floating element quite a few years ago. And that darkening you see
in the corners below f/8? That is your imaganation...

So how did I do? ;-)
