I'm sure that many here know this already, but the Rollei SL2000F, the
predecessor of the 3003/3001 cameras, was derived from prototypes that
Rollei got from Zeiss Ikon. These prototypes were for what was to be
the next generation Contarex system.

There are conflicting reports about the shutter used in these cameras.
Some have said that the shutter was also developed from Zeiss Ikon
prototypes while others have said that the shutter was 100% Rollei.
Weber certainly did get a modular shutter design from Zeiss Ikon, but I
have not found anyone who knows any details about this shutter. Weber
was going to use it in an autoexposure 35mm SLR which accepted Contarex
lenses, but apparently never got past prototypes. I have also heard
claims that the Regula Reflex CTL 2000 was developed from a Zeiss Ikon
prototype. After all these years it is hard to get definitive answers
to these questions.

It really is a shame that Rollei abandoned the 3003 series when they
did, because today this camera would be the obvious platform to mount a
digital back on.
