Subject: [rollei_list] Perspective control with Rollei 6x6
Listers,
Since I'm new (relatively) to using Rolleis, I have what
is probably
a newbie question, and I think I know the answer, but I'll
post anyway:
I've noticed in some of my shots that I get perspective
distortion,
as in the shot just posted on my site, #1. I assume the
distortion
occurred because of the camera angle. That is, the camera
was lower
than the subject, pointing up, which caused the outer
edges of the
image to bend inward.
When shooting portraits, I've attempted to keep the lens
and subject
within the same vertical plane, to reduce distortion.
Am I correct in my assumptions, and do you folks have any
tips/
tricks, etc., for me?
TIA,
Ken
In my response to this I meant to go on to say that a
certain amount of correction of parallels can be done in
enlarging. There are limits because there is an interaction
between the focal length of the enlarging lens and the
results. Ideally, the enlarger should be one with a tiltable
negative holder but one can work without it using small
stops on the enlarging lens to get enough depth of focus. On
some enlargers its also possible to makeshift a tilting
negative holder. The procedure is to tilt the baseboard to
get the lines parallel and to tilt the negative in order to
get everything in focus. Depending on enlarger illumination
there may be some effect on the uniformity of illumination.
Otherwise, you are stuck with having to scan the negative so
that an image editor like Photoshop can be used to rectify
the image.
