Its the speed that makes it interesting: lenses of this
order of focal length are not rare. But in combination with
the f/4 speed it is. I suspect the corrections are excellent
but I wonder how much of that is useful at great distances
under normal atmospheric conditions.
One of the references estimates the price as $300,000, I
have actually held a lens wich cost nearly this much in my
hot little hands. This one was a prototype Todd-AO
projection lens. I was told this lens cost about $250,000 US
when it was made fifty years ago. That would be a lot more
now.
Presumably there is some special mount to take both lens
and camera. I wonder if it includes image stabilizing means.
