Although my pride and joy is my 2.8D Rolleiflex with Xenotar, I have to admit that the best pictures I have ever taken were 4x5 format. And my favourite 4x5 format camera is my Speed Graphic. (I don't have a Crown Graphic, but if I did, it would be a favourite too.) The Graphics were so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o versatile it's amazing. They can be hand-held, can be used for sports photography, for formal (tripod-mounted) photography, and everything in-between. With a Grafmatic back, six shots can be taken almost as fast as with a Rolleiflex. The rangefinder, when properly calibrated, is more accurate than the one on a Leica. The sports viewfinder on the Graphic allows the photographer to see EVERYTHING in his field of vision: something even the Leica does not allow. The lenses available for it are amazing in their ability to capture detail. AND they're inexpensive, to buy as well as to use! In B&W anyway, film is cheap (about CAN.$1 per shot). If one wants, one can use a Polaroid back with it and show one's friends their pictures right away (or almost). One can even buy positive/negative Polaroid films for it, giving one the best of both worlds. Nothing I can say will give as much information about the Graphic cameras as the website <http://www.graflex.org/> and the links there. Well worth reading! On the other extreme, however, I drool every time I visit the Ebony web site, <http://www.ebonycamera.com/>. WHAT a set of cameras! The *ne plus ultra* of LF, no question about it. It's a pity I can't come close to affording even the cheapest one! Cheers, Ardeshir <http://homepage.mac.com/ardeshir>
