Subject: [rollei_list] Infinity Focus

My 3.5F seems to be out of adjustment. Maybe it's something I missed inspecting after it came back from CLA. I can focus on objects in the infinity range, but only by turning the knob back out a bit from fully closed.
Is this an adjustment I can do easily myself?

There are two infinity adjustments on a Rollei; one is the setting for the taking lens, the other is the co-incidence setting for the finder lens. I am not sure how the infinity stop is set on the F. On the E it is like earlier Rolleis part of the focus knob and set by loosening the collet that holds the knob on the shaft adjusting the relative position of shaft and knob so that the stop comes at the right place. This takes some means of viewing the image in the film gate or as done in manuacture by using a collimator and prism. The coincedence setting is done by first setting the infinty stop correctly and then adjusting the focus of the finder lens to match. The finder lenses are adjusted by rotating them. There are two kinds of locks on the lens. On some cameras there is a set screw and in others a clamp. In either case you have to remove the front panel. This is not trivial in an E or F. Make sure that the ground glass is seated correctly. If its slightly depressed it can cause the symptom you describe. Just push at it with your fingers. If this doesn't cure the problem the camera should be returned to whoever worked on it.
