Astia is now only haphazardly available in roll film formats from the big
suppliers and locating it, particularly propacks, takes some searching.
Kodak has also discontinued E100VS in 4x5 sheets and the emulsion seems to
be getting scarce in smaller film formats as well. B&H and Adorama both cut
their prices by about 1/3 on Kodak TXP in 5x7 format, which I believe also
does not bode well for fans of that emulsion, now only available in cut
sheet formats. 5x7 TMY2 400 is gone, 8x10 only available as part of a
special order. Apparently Fuji may also have announced (see Badger Graphic
website) that 5x7 Provia will also be discontinued. Perhaps these
discontinuations are only a reflection of a diminishing market for 5x7 film
and the other sheet sizes will not be affected, but I suspect that this is
just part of the continuing consolidation of film availability and more bad
news will be forthcoming. My freezer is full, my heart much less so.
Best,
Larry
