I don't have a similar Automat model, however I
think if you first look for the four image edges (up, down, left and
right)with your eye through the eye level focusing ocular you'll get an
idea about the image center. It happens to me when I focus for the
Rolleikin horizontal format, I need to look for the main subject using the
45° finder mirror to focus it accurately and I use that way; I use the
sports finder after the main subject was focused and I can frame it putting
it in different positions in the frame knowing it is focused, Anyway you
always have a general idea about the subject throughyour naked eye.

is a very early post-WW-II camera. If anyone else has one would you
please look through the mirror finder and see if its centered and how
much of the ground glass is visible.
Its possible the finder hood on this camera is not original but the
error, if it is one, does not seem related to the position of the hood
on the ground glass. In fact, the ground glass is mounted in the finder
hood itself.
I may not be completely clear on what I am asking.
Other than this the camera seems to be in very good condition. I got
it so long ago I don't remember where I bought it. I wanted on of this
particular model because the very first Rollei I ever saw was like it. A
friend of my grandparents in Miami allowed me to hold and look through
their Rollei, of this same version. About 1947 that was. I never forgot
it. I have to shoot with this thing, I've checked the focus alignment
and it seems to be right on. Has a Tessar lens who's serial number
agrees in approximate age with the camera.
