Years ago (about 1967) I had the great fortune of attending a master
class given by Pierre Cochereau. He told a story about when he was due
to perform in a small town in Europe. When he arrived, he found the
console locked and the church organist had left town. Apparently, this
was due to the regular organist being embarassed by the condition of the
organ.
