There was a plan some years ago to install 1500 sqft PV solar panel arrays
(sails). The "dry" lake isn't always dry and 6' down it's almost always wet
making anchoring structures a huge problem. It's not impossible to do the
geotech to get something like a tall solar thermal tower to remain standing up
straight, but the solar power companies are trying to get BLM land for a
$1/acre/year on 99 year leases to maximize value for their shareholders
(executive management). Fancy earthworks won't be in their budgets when there
are other sites with better specs.

Looking at those pretty, shiny mirrors makes me think...

We use sandblasting to put a texture on some of our plastic injection molds.

But I'm sure they will last a good long time. ;-)

There were some community representatives at the launch on Saturday who
passed out fliers and spoke about the potential land use changes around
Lucerne Valley.

The board will be discussing it, and how active a role we can take.

As a 501 (C)(3) non-profit we are not allowed to engage in lobbying ir take a
political position, but we can comment as a group, and inform our members
about developments that may affect us.

We will likely be at least commenting, and possibly filing as an interested
party with the agencies involved.

You identified one of the groups: drecp.org

Interested persons should review their website to keep current.

So, having made a short story long, yes the board is looking at it and you
will likely be hearing from us soon.

Anyone,

Lucerne Dry Lake is on the “Focus Area List” and “Special Variance List” for
development for renewable energy. If carried to fruition, Lucerne Dry Lake
would no longer be available for rocketry activities. Is an effort being
raised to have BLM designate Lucerne Dry Lake as a “Special Recreational
Area”?
