I’m new to rocketry but have been dealing with LiPo batteries for a while with
my son’s RC aircraft. No problems so far, despite some very hard landings (we
started a couple of years ago when he was 8, LOL). I can’t image a 1mm thick
LiPo could set a car on fire! :)

Cool. Thanks Carlo - so I will send some notes on those "ultra-thin" ones ...
probably need some high mach flights to buzz them out!

Yes. Do note that they have different polarity from the Featherweight Power
Perch batteries which have the same connector.

Thanks! Did you use the Sparkfun units?

I smashed up a Raven and a Telemini V1. I was using a 400 mAh and a 110 mAh
battery, respectively.

Thanks Carlo,

What devices are you using?

It could certainly happen, but I have crashed (and in doing so, crushed) LiPos
before without fires. They were small single cell ones, the sort that would be
advisable for altimeters in order to not burn out the FETs.

They don't like hard landings though.

Bad things happen.

RC fliers have burned up their cars.

Hi David,

Powerstream ...

PGEB01180270

I've flown the smaller Sparkfun units (x2 for 7.4v) ...

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8483

and they work well, I was just really impressed with the density of
the above ...

I have a call in to Bob F., let's get his take on these since he has
the most experience with them....

More on this later ... but I would be curious to know what other people
are using ... :-)

Bob Feretich has some great write ups on Lipo batteries you can find on his
site.

What is everyone using these days?

I've recently found some 3.7v 1000ma Li-Ion cells for mobile use which are
25x12x1mm thick! Amazing but needs testing.

Curious what people are using which has been flight tested...
