I was doing some searching on the web about braille and found out that in Japan they have guiding systems for blind travelers. They have special tiles that run along the sidewalks in the cities of Sasebo and Fukuoka. Straight lines indicate a path to follow; dotted tiles could be arranged to show a split in the path or a waiting point such as a crosswalk or a bus stop. There is also braille on the handrails giving information that sighted people would probably never notice. I didn't find an actual web page about it - just some blogs.
