We wanted to send you a quick update on some of the things happening on the AppleVis website. Firstly, we have just launched a new Campaign of the Month. This month we are encouraging you all to contact Starbucks and ask that they make their iOS app accessible to their many blind and low-vision customers. Earlier versions of their app were usable with VoiceOver, but this all changed when new features were added that enabled customers to use the app to pay for purchases and to manage their Starbucks Cards. The app is now totally inaccessible with VoiceOver. Considering Starbucks' commitment elsewhere to equality of access, including producing a line of gift cards featuring Braille print, it is extremely disappointing that their many vision-impaired customers are denied access to their app. We should all encourage them to correct this as a matter of some urgency. As always, the more of you who support our campaign, the more likely it is that the developers will take notice. So, please head over to our Campaign of the Month page and add your voice. Remember, it takes just a couple of clicks. We have now inducted 10 apps into our iOS App Hall of Fame, and we hope you will all agree that each fully deserves its place. However, to maintain the value and significance of induction, it is important that as many VoiceOver users vote as possible. We're not expecting you to be familiar with all of the apps that are nominated, but we would certainly hope that each month's list will include some that you have used. Simply vote for the one that you think deserves to be inducted. If you think that none are worthy, then be sure to nominate the apps that you think should be considered. If you haven't yet voted this month, please take a look at the nominees and vote for the one that you think is most deserving of induction. In the 3 months since it was launched, we have posted 34 episodes of the AppleVis Podcast. There's been an interesting mix of topics, and we hope that you have all found something of interest. If you haven't yet subscribed, the feed link is: http://www.applevis.com/podcasts/feed You can also subscribe via iTunes by simply searching for 'AppleVis' or by using the following link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/applevis-podcast/id478403062?ign-mpt=uo%3D4 Thank you to everybody who has already contributed content for our podcasts. Also, a reminder that we are always keen to receive recordings from anybody who has something they think would be of interest to fellow VoiceOver users. Apps such as DropVox enable you to use your iDevice as an audio recorder, and audio files can then be uploaded directly to the AppleVis website. If you have any questions about contributing to the podcast, please contact us. The popularity of the podcasts was one of the reasons why earlier this month we had to move the AppleVis website to a new server. Quite simply, our existing hosting arrangements were starting to grown under the strain. The switch required some downtime and disruption, so thank you for your patience during the transfer process. Everything should now be back to normal, but if you do encounter any strange behavior, please be sure to let us know. The upgrade to the site's server should allow for better stability and scalability as the site continues to grow. The new server is a significant commitment. As you should know, the AppleVis website is run by a small number of volunteers and receives no external funding or sponsorship. So, if you would like to support the maintenance and continued development of the AppleVis website, please consider making a donation. Donations are processed via PayPal, so are fully secure. Thank you for your continued support.
