Another traction tire expert is Ben's giraffe....he seems to collect
traction tires!
Actually, giraffe physiology is very interesting. Dress have to have a
very high blood pressure in order to maintain blood flow to the brain,
which is obviously at a level far above their heart. Unfortunately, when
they bend over to pick up something from the ground with their head, the
pressure would astronomically rise. They solve this with bypass valves
that automatically open when they change their position. Therefore, the
head of pressure doesn't blow their brains out when they bend over the pick
up something from the ground with their mouth.
In addition, respiratory physiology is also fascinating. The area between
the opening of our mouth and nose and our lungs is called the dead space.
This is not exchanging gas, but takes up part of your inspiration. Think of
the dead space and a giraffe! Giraffes solve this problem by increasing the
size of their lungs threefold when you compare the size of lungs within the
normal human.
The reason that I know this is that I was out to dinner with one of my
friends was a pulmonary doc and his wife. The women were catching up on
children. He has seen our layout many times and was discussing Ben's
carnival, and noted the draft with the traction tires around its neck. We
both started discussing draft physiology and used our iPhones in order to
clarify these burning questions.
Obviously, I need a life.
