Very good stuff. I also thank you for contacting the Snows. No Ferrari porn, but how about motivation of another sort? Like the Central Pacific locomotive Jupiter from the Golden Spike Monument?
I went with a friend to see the test firing of a SRB (Solid Rocket Booster) at ATK (which, last time I checked had been Morton-Thiokol, but that was a LONG time ago) but they postponed it until Thursday. Sorta kinda like wonna them shuttle launch things. So we went to the Monument and then to the Spiral Jetty (talk about 20 miles of BAD road!....well...only 6 or 7 of it is real bad....but my back still hurts.) Here's the Wikipedia link on the Jetty and the GS Monument:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiral_Jetty http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Spike_National_Historic_SiteSome interesting factoids: The Jetty is normally under water. The water level now is about 10 feet lower than normal. In the Wiki article it touches on some of that. The "red seas" it mentions are a couple of miles to the west and will, in all likelihood, return in the spring...since I'm predicting a very snowy winter. (Ancient Chinese Secret.) I'll eat my words if I have to.
More factoids. Last time I was at the GS Monument, was almost exactly 50 years ago, 1959...I don't remember what month it was, but it was in the summer. Big deal, huh? Another one: the gold color on the locomotive isn't gold paint. It's gold leaf. Talk about "spare no expense in restoration!" I think one of the shots will make a nice 20x30 poster.
Another: There's a site here:http://www.milleroffy.com/Photo%20&%20Sound%20Gallery.htm#Videos that has a wav file of a Novi driven by Bobby Unser during qualifying for the 1963 Indy 500. It's not great...and it's mono, so there's no sense of the car passing across the speakers, but it's pretty nice. There are a buncha other sound bites and video clips there. I think I'll just download 'em all for the hell of it. :)
Finally. I can create mp3 files from vinyl. I have an ancient Dual turntable that's connected thru my component system and into one of my workstations. It's a pita to break the files up into individual tracks, cuz I generally use Exact Audio Copy to do it, then Audacity to split 'em up. Last time I did an LP rip, it took me about 3 hours. Prolly explains why I have all those vinyl things that otta be converted so I can actually listen to 'em.
