Siwmae Jurgen,
Servus Rhisiart,
This recent comment that you put on the list
provokes another question from me: When you say
less efficient, do you mean less so
aerodynamically, or ergonomically?
Like Thomas P Jahn wrote, a higher BB brings aerodynamic advantages.
If your seat is reclined (even less air drag) it also brings a better
power output by better ergonomics.
I ask because I see that I shall have to have a
full-time, head-out full fairing for my python
to be a realistic car-substitute, in our
weather. And the shaping of the fairing will be
helped considerably if the uppermost sweep of
my toes on the pedals is kept relatively low.
But does that mean an inherently less efficient
action? Anyone else have any specialist
knowledge about this?
First I hope that you plan your full fairing for the trike version and
not for the bike. If the inclination of the seat is more upright the
efficiency will not suffer much (but yourself might suffer from
recumbent butt).
It's relevant to say that the fairing will be
tailored as slim as possible, to fit the the
bike python, and the alternate trike back end
will have its wheels outside the main faring,
with mudguard/farings on each back wheel,
similar to the Leitra's front wheel fairings.
Ok - better forget the idea of a fully faired two wheel Python.
Cheers,
Jürgen.
Thanks for this, J. I'm using your seat design,
for various reasons, but one being that it allows
me to alter the lean-back angle easily. Thus
plenty of scope to experiment in use, to find
sweet combinations.
I still expect to add a rowbike facility to my
basic pedal python, once the earlier wrinkles are
ironed out. So I need to be able to sit further
back on the seat, and set the backrest almost
upright, to be in the right position for that
mode. I've found Byron Rachman's pictures and
comments on his experience with his modern
version of an Irish Mail quad (the Champiot
Ultra) enlightening about possibilities. I love
the Thijs rofiets, but I don't want to go with
that setup.
I've never done any kind of photography, but my
partner has this beautiful SLR digital camera -
think that's what she calls it. I'll post a set
of pictures as soon as I have something that I'm
happy to show.
I note what you say about forgetting a full
fairing on a single-track python. My lack of
experience of riding the python form makes me
wonder why that's a bad idea. I know there are
plenty of single-track bents with full fairings.
But bad for pythons....? Anyway, when I get to
building the trike back end, I guess there's no
problem with a fully faired delta. I'm now torn
between the set up favoured by Henry and Bram
Smit, and the alternative setup made by Paul
Sims. I suppose no-one has any comparative
experience?
Cofion, Rhisiart
