According to my local pro shops and labs. Film sales have been increasing every
year. Two of these shops deal in film only. They stay busy. 😀
A photograph that mirrors reality, cannot compare to one that reflects the
spirit.

Film will be around for a long long time. We may find that the market for
commercial products goes away, and we may find we might have to do things in
ways that hasn't been required for a very long time, but it will survive at
least at some level. The early photographers had to make all their own
supplies, and the volumes of supplies used could drop to a level that makes
it very difficult to just order a box of paper.
Yet no matter what the future holds, I am pretty confident that photographers
will figure out a way to produce fine photographs. Granted I don't want to
get to the point where the darkroom had to travel with you in a horse drawn
wagon, but I don't think it will get to that point. We also have a far
greater knowledge of chemistry than those early pioneers.
Someone could find a way that could allow photographers a whole new area to
explore, with new and exciting ways to look at the world, and with a whole
new set of limitations that must be considered or embraced and used in the
creative process. Film, or something much like film, will be around for a
very long time.
