Well, I don't get so wrapped around testing every session, but I'd test your
"standard" process. If it is the image area, how did you see this or is it
just the middle area of the print? Are you running water while you hold the
prints before final wash? Or just letting them sit? 

I'd look to the stop bath as a place that is allowing too much developer
carry over. Fixer can only do so much, but a print that has a heavy
developer carry over is a problem. 

I suspect a lack of agitation rather than solution strength or freshness. I
know that when I get into a flow, I need to be careful not to get too loose
with my agitation per tray and not so much how long; although that is always
a part of it.
