Some French speakers in Canada often pretended not to speak English even though it is required thru high school. In one example, a waitress in a hotel dining room where I stayed for several days refused to recognize any English and was very cold and unhelpful. When she discovered that I was American and not English speaking Canadian her demeanor completely changed and I got extra attentive service. They removed it from the palstic bottle... THEN to get even with me for my insistance they pulled it out of the canister! I threw it down and was almost arrested! (See below for what happened just before this took place) In France, it is best to have a cute French speaker take it through for you... the jerk I got said he did not speak English... but I heard him have this conversation with the girl in front of me: Girl: Do I have to take off my shirt? Security: No, (laughing) there is no sexual harrassment allowed here.... Pretty good one liner for someone who doesn't speak English!
