Ralph, it is really no problem to use tank 2 and 3 for 2-step fixing. In this case you have to add a rinse between bath 1 and 2 - no problem. A friend of mine is doing this with his filmetta. I did not plan to use a stop bath but some streaking (Pyrocat HD) forced me to. For standard developers like ID11 or XTOL there is no need to use a stop bath. Just add a rinsing step. Hypo-clearing baths are easily done outside of the processor. As a additional information, the spools fit into paterson/AP-style-tanks.
