Hi All,

A friend running an NGO in Bangalore managed to get a license to setup an
emergency radio station in Kadalur. They need help in maintaining the
station there and a tamil speaker. Please revert back if you know of
someone who can help. Thanks!

Phuntsok

Hi people,
Sorry feel like such a retard, sent this to the wrong address and it
never made the list. Hoping in some way below info is helpful.
Just personally reflecting and seeing now in the last day stuff posted
to the list - I have been in comparable situation in the past. First
thing that goes is power, then all forms of communication (land lines,
mobile, internets of course). Seriously hard as its always those who
most need the info and news just can't access it, but ultimately
nobody can control nature. You just have to ride it out.
Its during the clean up and recovery phase when human agency is most
of importance.
In my situation I was trapped for 3-4 days surrounded by 20m of water.
Cut off from everything. As the water subsided we setup our house as
a dedicated safe place for children, during daylight hours meant all
able bodied adults could be out 100% focused on clean up and recovery.
In my experience things can potentially be even more toxic and
dangerous during this phase (disease, debris, unstable structures..)
and its the last place you want to expose to children.
So sorry to interject and know I am not in India, and every community
does things their own way. I understand important efforts are being
made to map and bring awareness to current flood situation. And
efforts such as below as to where is safe to shelter right now.
I just wonder how other recovery strategies, ways to help support
those affected once the crisis starts to stabilise can potentially now
to be put into place.
Kirsty

Maybe of interest to HH folks - or I hope can be distributed -
relating to Chennai right now.

This is a crowd sourced list of places available to seek shelter
temporarily. Please share this document. Add to it if you can.
