needing some further help

Dear list,
I am wanting to record a convention and would like to get the maximum time I
can on a disk. When I insert my disk it say "digital, audio recordable disk".
I don't see that there is an option to increase the recording time. Do I have
to have a different sort of disk to do this, and if so, what kind of disk?
With the ones I have, do I have any choice as to how much time I get per disk?
