OK, not to worry. If it happens again (God forbid!!) give me a shout.

Andy,

It may not help but I have on one occasion managed to recover a lost
recording by trying the CD in a different PTR1/PTR2. If you want me to give
it a go, I'd be happy to try it on my PTR2 as long as your recording isn't
confidential.

Let me know if this would be of interest. My email address is:

Jamie.cuthbertson@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Regards,

Jamie

Hi Jamie -

Thanks for this. The 'search for edited information' didn't help, when I
tried for this, it still said "drive error." I've had to do the recording
all over again, using 2 disks to be on the safe side. Strange that it has
this issue at about the 15 hour mark; maybe I should send it back to the
RNIB to have it serviced again, but the cost of postage [about £20] makes me

hesitate! -

Andy,

Not sure if someone else has already given you this information but here
goes anyway.....

I am not sure why there should be an issue with items over 15 hours - I've
certainly played DAISY books that are much longer than this with no obvious
issues. I've never recorded for as long as this on one CD so can't comment
on this aspect.

In terms of trying to recover your data, have you tried the option in the
Media Management menu called something like "Search for edited information
on the CD"? I can't remember exactly what it is called as I only have
access to a PTR2 at present and I think it was slightly different on the
PTR1.

Essentially, this feature is like a roll back facility and often is able to
take you back to the last saved position. Two things to be careful of if
you try this:

1. You are highly advised to connect to the mains before trying this as it
can take some time to run the process.
2. If you are successful in recovering some or all of your data, you should
try to finalise the CD straight away and ideally, backup your data as well.
It is not recommended that you continue recording to that disc in case there
is a fundamental disc problem.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Jamie

Subject: Drive error

Hi all -

I've discovered that I get a "drive error" message after recording to a new
disk for 15 hours. Using 'custom' settings, I choose to record to 64 bit
mp3, and am told that there is 23 hours of recording space on the disk at
the beginning, but like I say, after recording for 15 hours, I get this
drive error message, and the disk is then unrecoverable, and all the
recording is lost! Anybody know why this happens after 15 hours? I have also

found out that my PTR1 doesn't like pre-recorded titles that are longer than

15 hours; if I try to play a longer disk, it doesn't even begin, instead, I
get the "improper or damaged disk" message.

Anybody else experience this with the PTR1? Also, is there anyway to get
back that recording that at the moment won't play because of that 'drive
error' message?

Thanks - Andy
