FK8IH Jean-Claude, A LINUX user some 10+ years ago(Red Hat, Slackware, Mandrake) then moved toWindows XP then back to LINUX (Ubuntu Karmic) when changing of lap-top about two weeks ago. I am very satisfied with fldigi-3.13BP and jpskmail-0.4.0.2 on my XP platform but wanted to get the same softwares on Ubuntu, with some difficulties but it is
eventually very easy.1. fldigi : I installed the obsolete fldigi-3.11.4-1 in Ubuntu from the current Ubuntu
distribution logitheque and configured it.Then I downloaded fldigi-3.13BP.npa.bin.tgz from http://www.w1hkj.com/alpha and decompressed it, I then got two executable files : *flark and *fldigi which I copied to /usr/local/bin (using sudo mc, mc for Midnight Commander, an old files
manager which I would recommend as it is very powerful and easy to use in a terminal). When I started again fldigi from the menu, the updated version 13BP started. I copied also < *cty.dat > in my /home/<user/.fldigi directory, which adds a very useful "countries" button in the "view" menu of fldigi. 2. jpskmail : I downloaded jPSKmail-0.4.0.2-Linux-x86-Install fromhttp://hermes.esrac.ele.tue.nl/pskmail/ <http://hermes.essac.ele.tue.nl/pskmail/> and opened it by double clicking this
file. It installed OK.But it did not work and I had to install the < Sun Java6 Execution Environment >
with Synaptic packages manager.Bad luck again, I had to edit the jpskmail button of the Applications Menu to move it to my Hamradio button in the same Applications Menu (just a matter of good order of my menus) and I had to get it work to edit again this Applications menu to go to the "jpskmail" command button properties
and paste in the <command> tag the following : < java -jar "/home/<user>/jpskmail/javapskmail.jar" > Now it worked perfectly as it does on Windows XP. Hope I was not too long and it might be useful to others. 73's, JC FK8IH
