I for one really like pskmail, and I would really enjoy seeing it grow in
popularity. I agree with you as far as using the soundcard rather than a
Pactor box. Mainly because the cost is out of reach for me and many others
as well, plus it is a lot to carry on a hiking trip or camping trip. That
being said, I am truly amazed at how many users there are using Winlink,
Airmail, and so on. I'm sure that the soundcard program Winmor has helped
tremendously with it's growth and popularity. I am a big fan of using the
narrow modes, why use 2 - 3 kc if it isn't necessary?
Cygin has enabled me to get pskmail server going, I will using andLinux if
you feel that it would be better for pskmail, but as it stands I have no
problems with my server using the 1.5.8 Client, except the "Wrong Password"
issue.
I would like to move to another band to create more opportunity for
stations closer to me to use the server. I tried 80 meters, but I was asked
to leave because I was interfering with a CW traffic net. In this area it
is very difficult to find a frequency on that band that is not in use by
one of those nets. Except for those being used by the Winklink systems,
nobody challenges them, ever.
