.net or java, creating buttons shaped differently then usual

Hi,
I am working on a little side project which requires me to create a
cross-shaped, square-shaped, rectangle-shaped, heart-shaped and diamond-shaped
button.
Is this doable using code in either java or .net languages? I wouldn't know how
except maybe to set an image as the button's shape but I don't know if this can
be done. Anyone experience with things like this ?
