I used mono-vbnc with speakup in console mode to write an iching hexagram generator that's accessible. I did that because I found pyching inaccessible and have it working but for now it lacks database creation and management capabilities. A divination journal might be useful to the user since they'd be able to track their progress with it. If most of your experience with visualbasic has been on the G.U.I. side you could still install debian provided you have a supported hardware speech synthesizer and upgrade it to squeeze then install mono-vbnc and then install the desktop environment and then install gnome-orca. Once all of this is done you'd be able to run vbnc (mono-vbnc) in a graphical environment allbeit in gnome and gtk rather than windows. The mono-vbnc has its own web page but is also a debian package.
