Yeah, that's about what I thought too.  I just wound up using EdSharp
for c++ till I got some code to run so I could focus on the language I
was learning and not on the IDE I was using.  I have since found an
IDE I'm comfortable with.  I hope the same holds true for you after a
while.  Eclipse is nice but, it's something you want to focus on
exclusively until you get the hang of it.  If you try and do it while
you are figuring out why some code won't compile or coming up with a
program as an exercise, you will get frustrated because you won't get
very far with either.  I think what you are doing is very sane.
