Hi, Notepad++ is a good editor for programming. It works well with NVDA and should do as well with JAWS. For compiling just install GCC and run that from a DOS prompt. You will hav to use the JAWS cursor to read the output oft he compiler, but that should work. Visualstudio is working well with JAWS as well. You can type and call up the results after compiling with Alt+2 or from a menu option. There is a free express version from visualstudio available. I wrote with some problems and it was suggested I try compiling on the command line or using Visual Studio. My teacher says compiling on the command line is the best option for me at this point since I am only in an introductory C course right now. We tried compiling on the command line with my computer but we had several problems so my teacher suggested using the Cygwin environment and VI text editor. As it is non-graphical and mainly text-based, he figured it would work well with JAWS. JAWS will of course repeat back what I am typing but nothing else. It won't read anything to me in the Cygwin terminal or when I am using the VI text editor on my windows 8 machine. I am wondering if anybody has had any luck with this environment. He also installed the nano text editor but since I am not getting any feedback in the terminal window, I fear I will have no luck here either. Freedom Scientific told me they have not had much luck with it but suggested I ask if anybody else has or if anybody has work arounds to make it work. Sorry for the long-winded email but I wanted to explain the situation to you. Thanks for any help.
