Apologies for such a short notice.
Preservation Zebulon learned late last night that the Town of Zebulon has
scheduled a public hearing this evening, Nov. 7 at 7:00 pm to discuss a request
for the Town to annex two parcels of land that border the historic Bennett Bunn
Plantation. "Interested resident citizens are encouraged to attend and be
heard." So, we ask that you be interested, and attend tonight's meeting.
The Bennett Bunn Plantation is on the National Historic Registry and is also a
Historic Landmark in Wake County. It's history pre-dates the creation of
Zebulon itself. It is the only remaining Historic Landmark in Wake County
where the entire farm is so designated. Use of land surrounding the Bennett
Bunn Plantation could have tremendous impact to its immediate and long-term
future.
As a historic preservation group, Preservation Zebulon works to preserve
buildings, landmarks, and districts of historical significance to Zebulon. The
Bennett Bunn Plantation is clearly important to us and to Zebulon in that
regard, and so we want to make sure that full consideration is given to any
impact that could potentially adversely affect the historical significance of
the property.
We would like to request that the annexation decision simply be delayed until
all stakeholders, including the owners of the Bennett Bunn Plantation, can meet
and discuss the ramifications and consequences of the proposed annexation to
the Bennett Bunn Plantation.
We encourage you to attend tonight's meeting and lend your voice and support.
