Yes thank you very much indeed to find that the preamble was the culprit. Yes it works fine now with TL 2011.
Of course I was asking for how to produce a PS and PDF, and not EPS and PDF as I wrote.
Yes I know that powerdot doesn't work with pdflatex. I always use EPS figures. 

Thanks again. Now it is a matter to make it work seamlessly with WinEdt.
