Just a reminder that this event, noted at our last PWAS meeting, is coming
up tomorrow night. It will be held on the USM campus at Scianna Hall
Auditorium. There does seem to be some differences in the time for the
presentation. Southern Miss Now and the Hattiesburg American peg the
starting time at 6:30 pm versus 6:00 pm shown in the email below.
It looks like a very interesting program.

Portrayal
Celebrate the life of Mississippi's conservation pioneer, Fannye A. Cook,
Monday, March 27 at 6:00 pm, Scianna Hall Auditorium, USM campus
Cook, born 1889, had a remarkable life that included her being the force
behind creating the State Game and Fish Commission (now the Department of
Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks), founding the Museum of Natural Science,
pushing to create wildlife management areas and protect the Gulf of Mexico's
barrier islands, cataloging Mississippi's flora and fauna, researching,
teaching, and doing it all at a time when women were considered generally
unsuited for the serious business of politics or science.
A glimpse at Miss Cook's remarkable life unfolds in a half-hour,
biographical performance by wildlife biologist Dr. Cathy Shropshire.
Shropshire's theatrical incarnation of Miss Cook entertains and educates, in
the true spirit of the incredible Fannye Cook.
Dr. Shropshire, and Libby Hartfield, the retired director of the Mississippi
Museum of Natural Science and twice a Southern Miss alumna, will be
available to visit over refreshments with the audience after the
performance.
Admission is free.
