After numerous attempts and wasting a lot of time, I tried another CD (XP Pro this time) and had no problems at all. The install also went at lightening speed (~15 min) compared to the Home CD (the stop error happened each time after about AN HOUR!) Obviously there's something wrong with his XP Home CD, that was not only causing the error causing it to read REALLY slow. Thank God that's all it was. -Clint ----- Original Message ----- I have NEVER seen this before, even after hundreds of fresh installs. These are all brand new components. HD was formatted by the XP CD using the LONG method, not "quick". HD is SATA. BOTH optical drives have been tried. (One is SATA, the other is IDE). The CD has been cleaned. It's NOT an upgrade, not a copy, but the full install original hologram XP Home CD. Yet it keeps stopping on the installation screen with these notes of interest on the file that pops up: SXS.dll syntax error in manifest or policy file x:\i386\asms\10\MSFT\windows\GDIplus.man on line 4 I see that it's common, (http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/15875/ among many) and I'm searching for fixes now. But I'm posting it hoping someone has had this with a definite fix.
