A lot of us have problems with the clocks on our PC's running too fast (some even too slow). Mine was always running fast with Norton installed, after removing it years ago I never had the problem again. But recently over the past few weeks mine has being so off, it will be several minutes faster EACH DAY, and I have no idea why this suddenly starting happening. Synching with the time servers on the Windows System Tray clock manually will work, but the problem is that *automatic* update interval is a week. You can change this update interval in the Registry. Looks like it's about the same on XP and Vista, at least the target tag "SpecialPollInterval" is. I now have mine set to sync every 6 hours and, remember it's shown in SECONDS. It's in hexadecimal format, so "5460" is 21600 decimal (seconds) which is 6 hours. This is how I backed up/exported the tag in XP: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w32time\TimeProviders\NtpClient] "SpecialPollInterval"=dword:00005460 On XP in this Registry key area, manually, you can dot the "Decimal" option and enter in seconds and it will convert it to hexadecimal. If done correctly, when you open the system clock properties again and look at "Next synchronization" it will correctly show no longer than (as in my case) 6 hours in the future. Later I found a nice GUI method of doing this, it's free. http://www.worldtimeserver.com/atomic%2Dclock/ You don't install anything, it's simply a shortcut GUI to doing the same thing, and with other options. It works on Win7, Vista, XP, 2000, 2003, but 32bit ONLY. 64bit will have to do it the way I did, (or find another GUI program). So now you should have no more PC clock problems. ;-) -Clint God Bless, Clint Hamilton, Owner www.OrpheusComputing.com www.ComputersCustomBuilt.com www.OrpheusComputing.com/cheap_reliable_web_hosting.html www.OrpheusComputing.com/PCworks-computer-help-email-list.html ========================= The list's FAQ's can be seen by sending an email to PCWorks-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with FAQ in the subject line.
