Hi guys and gals, I have a laptop torn apart trying to troubleshoot a dim lcd screen. I could barely see the windows longon and once started up, barely see the desktop (it works fine plugged into a seperate monitor) I pulled the screws from the screen and if I put a light source between the back and the screen, I can almost use this laptop! However, I'm not at all familiar with lcds and inverters and ?? other parts.. I can however replace something if I can figure out what it is. This is a sony vaio PDG-FXA9(UC) according to the bios. I have tried turning up the brightness. I made sure it wasn't in some kind of suspend or dimmed mode leftover from hibernation, something needs to be replaced and I don't know what. All the pixels look good, good color, just very dim. Ah HAH the back light is dead or dying? ok, but how do I fix it, any ideas? I'm looking for the cheapest replacement. The tasklight stuck behind the screen and the lid isn't going to cut it.
