A couple of days ago, I got the following email ----

Recently we attempted to authorize payment from your credit card we have on=
=20
file for you, but it was declined.
For security purposes, our system automatically removes credit card=20
information from an account when there is a problem or the card expires.

Please resubmit the credit card, and provide us with new and complete=20
information. To resubmit credit card information via our secure server,=20
click the following link:
http://myaccount.earthlink.net/cam/cam?p=3Daddcreditcard

This is the quickest and easiest method of getting credit card information=
=20
to us. Using the secure server will ensure that the credit card will be=20
placed on account within 24 hours.

It looks fine but it was sent to a secondary email address, NOT my primary=
=20
one. That sent up alarms instantly. I did NOT click the link, but went=20
manually to my account at earthlink and verified that my account was paid=20
and the credit card info was valid. It was.

I sent the email to Earthlink customer service and received their response=
=20
today. It states:

Thank you for contacting us.

We understand your issue regarding receiving an email notice.

We apologize for the confusion. The email you received and its=20
corresponding web site are fraudulent, and are in no way associated with=20
EarthLink.

We were made aware of this site recently and took immediate steps to=20
contact the host of the site, to have it removed from service.

I thought it was worth making others aware of this scam. Earthlink does=20
have you work through My Account at the Earthlink site. But you should=20
ALWAYS go there independently of a link in the email even if you believe it=
=20
to be genuine. This email looked valid. The only real tipoff was that it=
=20
was sent to the secondary email address not the primary. I'd have been=20
more apt to click the link had they had the primary address. From now on,=
=20
I won't even consider clicking links on anything like that. I just wanted=
=20
to warn anyone else that this is out there. I'm sure it will pop up again,=
=20
using another site or another ISP.
