If you have a bootable CD, then you do not need to put any dos etc on the hard drive. So then it could be worth just typing c:>format /q This does the job faster, it is just removes the allocation table, making the disk seam empty, the same as deleting files, when if fact they are still there but the space is now classed as available for writing to and using by Windows. So may be that will help you also.
