That depends. In the good old days, 1024 bytes
was 1 kilobyte, 1024 kb was
1 megabyte and 1024 megabytes was 1 giga byte.
(2 to the tenth power, 2 to
the 20th power and 2 to the 30th power
respectively)

Now, in order to make their products look better
than they really are,
manufacturers have changed the definitions to
1000 bytes equals 1 kilobyte,
1000 kilobytes equals 1 megabyte and 1000
megabytes equals 1 gigabyte. (10
to the third power, 10 to the sixth and 10 to the
ninth respectively)

Search Google for these (without the quotes)
"define:gigabyte"
"define:megabyte" "define:kilobyte"
"define:byte"

This was a topic in this group a while ago so you
might also search the
archives.
