Or go to command prompt and type "chkdsk /f" (without quotes) and the next 
time you boot it will scan the disk.

  |  Open My Computer. right click your C drive and click properties, then
  | the tools tab. Here you will find Error Checking, which I assume is
  | Scandisk and also defrag. Don't know about your recycle bin. Mine is
  | right on the desktop. Maybe search for it and create a shortcut.
