I don't know. If it's just the Adobe stuff, I'm more than likely to just chalk it up as an Adobe issue. But if it's happening with more than one brand of software, I'm stumped. I'm now also wondering if it will flag an app as insecure even if there isn't a more secure update to replace it. That would all depend on what info they use to determine an app's security. As an example, if a security site publishes a newly discovered vulnerability found in MS Excel, will Secunia flag it before MS has a chance to release a new patch? If it does, what is it offering to download? The only thing that makes any sense would be the most recently available patch, which may be already installed. If this is what it's doing, it's still going to make sure your system is as secure as it can possibly be while slightly confusing you in the process. The only problem that I recall having with the utility is that it insisted on flagging certain older apps that I use simply because there is a newer major version available. For instance, I use ACDSee as my image manager. It allows me to quickly scan through my entire image library using an Explorer-like folder menu on one side and a size-adjustable image viewer on the other. I find this much more convenient than using thumbnails or Windows built-in image viewer. However, over several version updates, ACDSystems took this wonderfully small and efficient app and created a monster by adding far too many extra features that I simply don't need or want (most are for various camera-centric options). They are now up to version 8 or 9, but I choose to stay with version 3.1 for the reasons stated above. Secunia flags it as outdated, but not insecure. And then insists on reminding me repeatedly that it hasn't been updated. lol Still, I really DO like the utility for all that it does and will probably reinstall it following my next reformat. Maybe the latest version has a way of turning off certain notifications like my ACDSee issue. :O) Peace, G http://www.naturalnews.com/023033.html "The only dumb questions are the ones we fail to ask!" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Matt Moceri" <matt.moceri@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, April 20, 2008 1:02 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Updates on new versions > G, > Yes I did and I did what I could to do what it wanted but had the same > message.
