LOL
In this instance - I haven't written back yet with how good of a system I want!
Of course, I would liike a really good system. Being realistic? I'm not so sure.
I want at least a 120 gb hard drive. And enough ram to keep it running without
any questions.
I would like amenities - dvd burner would be awesome! but - I don't have a dvd
player - but would like to plan for the future. Definitely a cd burner (and my
floppy drive! <smile> )

what the medion had at Costco was:
Intel pentium 4
2.8 ghz
512 ddr333
120 mg hard drive
64 mb nividia video card
64MB NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 video card
eithernet 10/
bunch of ports on the front
I'm pretty sure it was a DVD burner (not positive on the burner) and a Cd Burner
also plus the floppy drive.
I've NO clue about software....
It's priced at $1299.00 now - includes a flat screen monitor -
and it has a bunch of places to put in cards from different digital cameras -
just not the one I own!! LOL

so -
Before, the concensus was, it would be difficult to build this system for that
price. Actually - this is 100 less than it was before when I looked at it.
it was $1399.00 then...

Was there ever a resolution to this problem? I had a friend facing a
similar problem not long ago and I had no idea what to tell him. Maybe I
can help him out if there were any resolution here.

How "good" of a system you're looking into?

  Ok !!
I'm lining everybody up to tell me what to buy and where to buy it and how
to
  build one!!

The guy trying to talk me into it did say that the hardest thing is (and
most
  expensive) getting the
software and getting it on and running.

I find this to be true if you are not looking for anything spectacular
from
the spec, but it's still a lot cheaper to put together a higher specced
machine yourself AND you get to choose the components that suit you, not
the
  maker.

As for the difficulty in doing it yourself? Speaking as someone with
hooves
for hands, it's one of the easiest 'technical' things you can do. If you
can
use a screwdriver, you can do it.
