I use CCleaner to clean my drives and my registry on multiple computers in both Vista and XP. I have NEVER regretted it. CCleaner does a good job and does it safely. Plus it is FREE (that is a good thing in today's economy) and is also available as a portable application. Note: If you choose to use CCleaner, be aware that when cleaning the hard drive it deletes everything permanently (it warns you about that), even if you tell it to not empty the recycle bin. Review the list of cleaned up files before you approve the clean up. Also, review all changes to the registry and backup the registry when it prompts you to. After a few uses you will begin trusting the utility and forego some of the reviews if they bore you. I seldom back up the registry fixes any more... only when I have been making major changes that might be desirable to me but not to CCleaner. I have never had to use a backup after using CCleaner.
