Hey Dan, First of all, the driver version 5.12.4161s isn't even the newest, but it's the newest that Microsoft signed (meaning that they approved). There is a version 5.12.4193 that isn't signed by Microsoft. An unsigned driver is not always bad (and actually very common) since Microsoft often takes forever to sign many drivers and probably stopped signing WinXP drivers shortly after Vista came out. Anyway, you can find both here: http://support.turtlebeach.com/site/kb_ftp/585.asp#drivers Now to stop the old driver so you can install the new one... Apparently you have a driver that is an exact match for the card installed already. Did you install the version 5.12.1.4028 in the past? Well, it doesn't really matter, but that is the cause for why it installs automatically. All you have to do is remove the current driver by doing the following: Open Control Panel, double-click System, click Hardware tab, click Device Manager button, click the + (plus sign) next to "Sound, video and game controllers", right-click the sound drivers that say Santa Cruz in the name, and choose Uninstall. At this point you should probably reboot to make sure the driver is taken out of memory. Then continue your instructions from where you select the cancel button on the "New Hardware Found" window. If you don't get the "New Hardware Found" window on this reboot, then follow my instructions again, but don't reboot this time. Here are the instructions: ############################################################ WINDOWS XP 1. Install the Santa Cruz card in the PC. 2. Connect your powered speakers, microphone, and any other audio peripherals to the appropriate inputs and outputs on the Santa Cruz. 3. Turn on your PC. When Windows has booted for the first time after installing the Santa Cruz hardware in your computer, Windows will report new hardware found. This message box may appear as: 'Sound Fusion' 'Turtle Beach Santa Cruz' or 'Multimedia Audio Controller' select the cancel button on the "New Hardware Found" window to close and return to the Windows desktop. NOTE: You must click on Cancel at this screen to properly install the Santa Cruz. 4. Launch the TBSCruz4161s.exe from where it was saved on your system. 5. Follow the instructions that appear during the install, selecting the options that best match your audio setup. 6. When the installation is complete click 'Finish'. The Santa Cruz will be ready for use. ############################################################## I never see any of the screens mentioned in #3 above. I do see a pop-up (in the systray); however, it is fleeting and does not give me the option to cancel. Windows proceeds with installing Santa Cruz driver version 5.12.1.4028; dated 8/1/2000, which also creates an Error Reporting Message when booting out of hibernation. Error Reporting suggests that I install a later version 5.12.4161s; dated 4/25/2002. Is there a work-around for installing this later version of the driver? Thanks in advance for your response.
