benavita,

Have you tried one of the tweaking programs, as that will change the computer
name for you. I also see no reason for it to mess things up and stop Windows or
other programs from working.

Hope that helps,

Trevnal

Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Help with computer name setting?

Hi, thanks for this helpful service.
I have switched to new computer with XP. Someone else set it up in my absence,
bad plan. They set the computer "name" to my name. Now my name shows up in the
extended headers for Message ID# on every e-mail message I send, for example:

Received: from pcp01721359pcs.union01.nj.comcast.net ([XX.XX.XX.XXX]
helo=benavita)
for (recipient) Sat, 06 Sep 2003 11:53:53 -0700
Message-ID: <00b301c374a8$3dfd3d00$6401a8c0@benavita>

This is fine when I'm sending messages from my regular account but I also
administer several professional mailing lists and POP the administrator accounts
with those domain names through the main account. I don't wish to be
identifiable by name as the administrator of these sites when I reply to
subscriber requests.

I've tried right-clicking "My Computer" > Properties and changing the computer
name, leaving it blank or putting in a nonsense word, but the mails I send are
still showing my name (benavita) in the recipient headers. Someone tells me if
I change the name none of my mailers or WINXP settings will function. I don't
know if that's true, but haven't tried it because they couldn't tell me how I
would get it to change in the first place.

Can somebody explain or offer solution?

Thank you very much,
