As I recall, Don, they are re-writeable, will not work on many players
and are suitable for (very)compatible DVD players only. They are
certainly less 'universal'. They also come with minusR(DVD-R) and
plusR(DVD+R). I believe some machines can handle both types.
My Panasonic DVD Player recorder will not look at the +R, but will play
a music CD OK.
